By the 8th century, filigree was already being crafted in what is now Portugal. In the north, families have kept this ancestral art alive for generations, shaping fine threads of gold and silver by hand.

At the Romaria of Nossa Senhora da Agonia in Viana do Castelo, that inheritance comes to life. Women parade in richly embroidered dress and layers of family gold, celebrating devotion, honour and prosperity.

A family tradition. A personal journey.
My search for Fado took me to Póvoa de Lanhoso, in northern Portugal. I visited artisan families myself, looking for the people who would bring our pieces to life.
There, I found a family who had preserved the art of filigree for generations. Knowledge passed from parents to children. The small, carefully guarded secrets of a craft still made by hand.
This is what I wanted Fado to carry: not only the beauty of Portuguese jewelry, but the hands, the family and the heritage behind it. A story to wear today, and pass on tomorrow.
