What is 19.2k Portuguese gold?
19.2k gold contains 80% pure gold, expressed as 800 parts per 1,000. The remaining 20% is made up of alloying metals. The number describes the gold content throughout the alloy: it is not a layer of gold over silver.
19.2k, 18k and 14k: the difference
Karat measures purity on a scale of 24. Portuguese 19.2k gold is 80% gold; 18k is 75%; and 14k is commonly marked 585, or 58.5%. For the same weight, 19.2k contains more pure gold than either 18k or 14k. Purity alone does not determine the price of a finished jewel — craftsmanship, weight and design also matter.
